Current events of Cannabis reschedueling

“Marijuana Rescheduling Update.” Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC, 15 Sept. 2025, www.bipc.com/marijuana-rescheduling-update.

The article I just read called, "Marijuana Rescheduling Update" written by Buchanan Ingersoll and Rooney PC talks about the current news surrounding, "nine Republican members of Congress sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi opposing rescheduling cannabis under the Controlled Substances Act." It also goes further into detail about the proposal talking about how rescheduling the drug to schedule III could provide tax breaks to companies that sell and grow medical and recreational marijuana would be able to receive tax breaks, due to the fact that while the substance is still federally illegal, even though more than half the states in the US have legalized it for either medical or recreational use. To further build on this, with marijuana being a schedule one drug it has no opportunities to be used medicinally although most states have made it legal after many studies showing benefits for many different things. The article also talks about the Drug Policy Alliance making a statement that says, "the Drug Policy Alliance, (DPA) is urging its members and supporters to send a clear message to President Trump: “Don’t merely reschedule marijuana but fully legalize it instead.”." This quote further helps me gain insight on how much the country as a whole is pushing for the drug to be legalized and this will help me look at marijuana as a thing that since growing up I have been taught that it was simply drugs are bad and that people collectively hate them although I am now being taught otherwise from the article as well as this organization. The article gives further tells us about statements by people such as Ben Carson and Roger stone with Rogers being quoted in the article saying, "As Stone noted “rescheduling cannabis is not the end game, but it is the critical next step….and more than signal a new direction—it would unlock immediate, measurable relief for patients, entrepreneurs and state programs.” This quote further dives into possible benefits of the legalization as well as the change of scheduling. Overall, I believe that this is good news for the cannabis industry and cannabis enjoyers as a whole.
